I Don't Deserve It!

I Don't Deserve It!

I don’t deserve it!

That is the deep-seated fear of many a business owner or entrepreneur.

In the back of their minds, they don’t really believe that they deserve to get paid well for the product or service they provide.

I, thought this way. I would share my gifts and insights for helping to build profitable businesses with others and watch them bloom. But would never ask to get paid for this service. Those close to me kept telling me that I should get paid. But I dismissed it. But I didn’t know why.

I heard someone say, “You won’t ever know what is going on in the back of your mind until you pay attention to your thoughts”.

So that’s what I did, I began paying attention to what I was thinking. I then asked, where did these thoughts come from?

Dr. Caroline Leaf says, “We can go three weeks without food, three days without water, three minutes without oxygen. But we can’t go three seconds without thinking.”

What was I thinking?

What thoughts did I have about money and how it's acquired?

Where did I get those thoughts?

_” The source of your thoughts are more important than your thoughts.” - Myles Munroe

Our thoughts originate from where we spend most of our time. Our public and private environments talk to us all the time. They shape our thoughts and culture. We pick up a school of thought from what we see modeled around us. What did you see, feel, hear, smell and taste when you were growing up? What do you see, feel, hear, smell and taste now? The people we live with, the people we hang with, what we listen to and what we watch all shape our school of thought. There are many voices out there. These voices tell stories, paint pictures, create images and influence our thoughts.

Because our senses pick up and register the world around us. It is important to be on alert as to what goes into our eyes, ears, and heart and what eventually comes out of our mouths. When I speak of the heart, I am not referring to the organ that pumps blood through the body. I am speaking of the soul. The mind, will, and emotions of a person. The unconscious mind. Our environment affects our very being. ‘’ Guard your heart above all else because it determines the course of your life. ‘’ Proverbs 4:23 NLT Notice here the writer does not say _lives_ plural. This one life is the life you have and you don’t get another. Manage it well now. But how does one do that?

Watch what you watch. The things to which we pay attention gets down into our heart. To set our thrive environment, we may need to change what we watch at the movies or on Youtube or tv. We may need to change the music or podcast to which we listen. We may need to get some new acquaintances and friends. If what you listen to is not productive and something that will get you to your commitments and goals then you must not waste your time there.

As a friend and lifestyle coach, Carla Brown-Preyer says, “Think about what you’re thinking, and listen to what you are listening to”. It’s time to take control of the thoughts that control our lives. We have the power to choose our thoughts therefore the power to choose our destiny.

Exercise:

1. Get a pen and paper.

2. Get quiet.

3. Write down every thought you think about money. Positive or negative. It doesn’t matter.

4. Now for every negative thought find a way to reframe it for the positive.

For instance if you say, “I’m not good with money”, reframe that to say “I am an excellent money manager.”

I have put together a list of things to say to help you reframe your thoughts about money and how to get it.
